Landscape Architecture Accreditation Workshop
The Landscape Architecture Accreditation Workshop organized by Bartın University Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Design, Department of Landscape Architecture, together with PEMDER and supported by PEMKON and TÜBİTAK, was successfully completed on December 5-7, 2019. There were important guest speakers in the Workshop, in which the stakeholders of Landscape Architecture education, academia, private sector, professional association, colleagues and students participated, widely. The member of the Presidency Education and Training Advisory Board and also of TED University’s Board of Trustees, Prof. Öktem VARDAR; the Turkish Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) member Ayhan KOÇER; and the manager of the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK) Z.Seyhan BAŞER participated in the workshop and shared their knowledge and experience. Accreditation practices in different countries were conveyed by competent scientists within the scope of the workshop. In this context, information was shared on the accreditation of Landscape Architecture teaching programs in the USA, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. The processes in the USA were explained by the president of the American Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), Prof. Sadık ARTUNÇ; the processes in the Netherlands were explained by the LE:NOTRE Institute director, Ir. Jeroen de Vries; the processes in Germany were explained by Prof. Gert BISCHOF from Erfurt University. A panel on the “Accreditation of Landscape Architecture Curriculum in Turkey: Criteria / Processes” was held on the last day of the workshop. The workshop, with a total of 224 participants, received wide coverage in national and local media, and has been an important turning point in the accreditation process of Landscape Architecture education programs in Turkey.
